But its always worth taking a look back at some of the greatest romances of all time, and some of our favorite vintage couples. This week, we’re profiling the romance of Jessica Tandy, and Hume Cronyn.

Both Jessica and Hume were actors; Hume being a top Canadian screen and stage actor, and Jessica who was born in London but spent the majority of her career in the United States. Hume Cornyn’s first big Hollywood films were in Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt, and Lifeboat; he was later inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame. And we can’t lie, he certainly was a handsome guy!

Jessica Tandy started her career off in London in a number of films, but made her American debut in The Seventh Cross in 1944. Like Hume, Jessica was also a talented stage actor, and received a Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway production of A Streetcar Named Desire. And it’s not hard to believe that she was also named one of People’s 50 Most Beautiful People.

But how did these two meet? Hume had been visiting his friend in New York and saw Jessica on stage in a Broadway show, and he was introduced to her afterwards. While both were previously married, this couple’s romance was strong right from the beginning. They both starred alongside each other in multiple films including The Green Years, Foxfire, and The Gin Game. They also did a radio show together called Marriage which was later turned into a television series.

Hume and Jessica were married for 52 years, before Jessica tragically passed away from ovarian cancer in 1994. Although Hume remarried two years after her death, he spoke openly about his love for Jessica and the troubles he had after she died.

In addition to your favorite stockings and lingerie, let’s channel the happiness these two had to keep the romance alive and well!
